John Hartley is a research professor in the Discipline of Media and Communications at the University of Sydney. Previously he was Head of the School of Journalism, Media and Culture at Cardiff University, Dean of Creative Industries at QUT, is John Curtin Distinguished Emeritus Professor at Curtin University. He has held visiting professorships at New York University, The London School of Economics and City, University of London, Shenzhen University, WZB Berlin, Southern Denmark University; and was Adjunct Professor at the ANU. At QUT, he was ARC Federation Fellow and Research Director of the ARC Centre of Excellence for Creative Industries and Innovation. Hartley founded the International Journal of Cultural Studies (Sage), which he edited for 20 years, and Cultural Science Journal (Sciendo).
